Is it completely impossible to get bored of bigging up the Hessle Audio crew? Well, yeah.

Last weekend saw the crew descending on a Manor House hotel in Wales, all as part of FreeRotation festival. The festival itself was the nuts. Me and my friend Chris rocked up to a site of about 15 tents, all alongside cars with 4×4 blazin’ out of them. I can’t think of a better back drop for a weekend of techno than this the kind of house you imagine Zara Phillips to ride a horse around in.

It got to around 6 in the morning, and the vibe was still tight. The James Blake remix of ‘Stop What You’re Doing’ got dropped and even though every body in the room was wary and wounded from from a savage battering of future music, the sound of a synth being thoroughly fucked around a room seemed to make so much sense – it was unreal.

Other highlights were the masterful Shackleton, 2562, Efdemin and Peverelist – but the 4 hour Hessle Audio takeover in a room furnished with chandeliers, a grand piano and a soundsystem taller than myself was my music highpoint of the year. You can hear this, and a whole bunch of unreleased joy on Ben UFO’s Electronic Explorations mix and in Ramadanman’s interview + guest mix with Gilles Peterson.
