It’s nearing the end of the year, so obviously I have to pay my debt s a journalist and put together a list of stuff i’ve been listening to this year. I’m going to go out on a limb though and subject myself to the hoards of internet user who get mad angry at shit and comment it saying they’re going to kill me because i’m stoopid and don’t know shit.
Therefore, to anger these serial masturbators even more so, every list I put up is deadly serious in it’s ordering. When I put something at no.1 I mean it’s literally better than everything that came before it by about 20%. Also, anything missed out from the list is awful. There will only be 10 good records from the year in each genre/ format – and that is what I truly believe.Anything you think should have been included and I have forgotten/ failed to include is god awful in my opinion.
So here goes.
THE Top 10 Grime Albums
1. Gremlinz – Terror Danjah
Instrumental albums seem to be the only thing worth spending your cash on anymore. This album took that concept further though. Terrpr’s variation in production made it feel like a real ‘album’. I got into grime because the beats were like nothing else, and Terror demonstrates this perfectly.
2. Street Anthems – Roll Deep
Yeah fair enough there are some real whack tunes on this album, but it’s essentially a Best Of Roll Deep album. When they’re at their best, nobody can touch them. I suppose when they’re at their worst nobody can touch them either, because they hold the same appeal as Piers Morgan taking a shit on your mum.
3. Something Out Of Nothing – Dot Rotten
Recently i’ve been reviewing why Tempa T is so big, I think its mainly because he does the comedy side of grime so well. Which is fair – it’s an important part of grime, and it sells. In a just world though, Dot Rotten should be just as big. He can do grime with meaning, bearing in mind this has only ever been achieved by early Dizzee and Trim – he deserves any success he gets.
The album also features Talking The Hardest. Listen to it.
4. Money Over Everyone – P Money
1-Up has got to be instrumental of the year. P Money is about the only MC to officially vocal it. This is pretty mucht eh only reason i’ve included his album. Every other good instrumental on here has been vocalled better by someone else. It’s still worth hearing though
5. No Hats No Hoods Vol. 1 – DJ Magic
This is pretty good actually.
